what's the christian approach to vacations?

there's just so much out there on the web... it's just too much, so here's one more. hopefully, the last one for the night. i should read (an actual book) after i write this post. but i write these posts here not just to share, but for future reference for me as well. that way i can remember where and what i read. so basically, it's for me, not you. haha. j/k j/k.

this blogger was talking about his vacation and asked the question "what's the christian approach to vacation?" which is a question that i often thought about this past year. over the past year, i took a lot more vacations and traveled to a lot of different places, now that i have the time and money. it's all fun and nice, but in the end, traveling, too, can become meaningless. and sometimes, i would wonder, why am i traveling so much? what is the purpose in all this? why do i like traveling so much? but like he said, leisure time is something that is needed, just as observing the sabbath rest is necessary, "to reconnect with God, others, and the world around us." But I do need to be careful in not making vacation an idol in my life, which is a very real possibility in my life if I'm not careful and wise. And he also did say something that resonated with me.

"My theory is that in the fullness of the kingdom of God and the new heavens and the new earth, all of the physical locations of the entire world will be redeemed, restored and preserved for continued exploration and enjoyment. After all, his creation is all very good, and there's no way we can get to everything in this lifetime. So I hope and expect that we'll have all eternity to travel and visit all the places that we have always wanted to visit - and see them in all their beauty and glory, the way God intended them to be."

i don't need to be "obsessed" with making traveling a time-limited venture in my life. after all, i do have eternity to explore and enjoy God's creations forever. Amen to that! Thank you, Lord!
