free parking and ice cream
yesterday, i was in ktown with a friend eating at Mr. Pizza Factory, and both of us had no cash, only credit cards. the restaurant accepted credit cards so there was no problem there. BUT, our parking valet did cost $1. last time this happened (at Yoo-chun, in ktown, again) there was a 7-11 nearby so we were able to withdraw cash from their ATM. that time, the restaurant's credit card machine was broken so we had to pay in cash for our meals. but anyways, at Mr. Pizza Factory, there was no ATM machine nearby or anyplace just to get one dollah, so we asked our waiter if he could add $1 to our bill and just give us $1 in cash back. (we were desperate, i know) but our waiter, such a nice guy, gave us $1 in quarters that he uses to pay for his parking meter! awww~~ that was so nice of him. we felt really bad but we did accept just 50 cents b/c my friend had 50 cents in the car. and then we left him a little thank you note on the receipt and gave him a nice~~ tip. so we got semi-free parking out of there. but then again, we didn't tip the parking valet guy though. but i think he understood. i think.
but that was not the end of it. so, of course, we had to have dessert. so we went to baskin robbins to get some ice cream. and of course, they don't accept credit cards, except with a minimum $20 purchase!!!!!! what the~~~!!!!!! so we we asked him to save our ice cream (in the freezer, of course) while we walked to the nearby bank to get some cash. but then, some nice guy (not a freaky dude, b/c i think he was on a date with a girl himself) offered to pay our combined total of ~5 dollars. that was such a shocker, but a nice surprise. and that was sooooo nice of him.
it's semi-understandable when something like this happens once in a day, in a long while. but when it happens twice in a day! that's crazy!! it was just too funny. but i also couldn't help but think, would korean guys do this? nah! (the waiter was chinese and the anonymous dude at baskin robbins was white) i know, i'm ragging on korean guys right now; then prove me wrong!
anyways, the Mr. Pizza Factory place was pretty good. the reviews that i read before i went there weren't all that great. most said that the place and atmosphere was great but the food wasn't spectacular or anything. and it was true. the atmosphere was nice, and the food was good, but not spectacular. it's a new place that has its roots in korea. again. just like pinkberry. is that going to be the trend for awhile now??
