Esther moments
I learned something new yesterday... it's called "Esther moments."
The context was talking about how important it is for Christians to meet regularly to encourage and to stir one another up to love and good works. In Esther's example, she was at the right place, at the right time, being queen at a time when one guy was trying to kill all the Jews. God surely would have been able to use someone else to save His people, but because Esther was willing to be there ("If I perish, I perish"), God was able to use her mightily.
It's the same way with small group. If we don't go, we could be missing out on "Esther moments." Moments where we could encourage and help others. Moments when we're on the receiving end and finding healing, love, encouragement, and peace in the process.
To be honest, I struggle with small groups a lot. I know that it is important to not give up meeting regularly with other believers. But I'm very skeptical about small groups. A lot of it has to do with never having a really close-knit fellowship with other believers in a small group setting. A lot of times, I go to them expecting so much, but oftentimes come back home disappointed, discouraged, and sad.
Hebrews 10:24-25
"And let use consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near."
